Year 1200

In the 12th-13th century Sweden is a federation of counties with a weak central power and rivaling clans struggling for power.

An embryo to stronger national power took place in the beginning of the 13th century. Still, Helsingland Värmland and Dalarna completely autonomous province with both Swedish and Norwegian interests. Småland is a borderland between Sweden and Denmark.

The Baltic States are like Sweden, divided and without a strong State.

In the North livets the Cwen people and Sami people which both pay tribute to the Carelians. The Carelians has a dependence to Novgorod.

Year 1300

Without the revenue from the iron and copper and thus loss of interest from German merchants remains the Swedish urban development weak. No strong army can be financed. No crusade to Finland and war against Novgorod. The stronger royal power in Norway and Denmark ties the frontier provinces. Helsingland has previously strong ties with Jämtland and Norway.

The Carelians dominates trade in Cwenland and the Sapmi. And the area would be incorporated in the 13th century with Novgorod. After countless attempts to succeed the Danes finally conquer Västergötaland. One of the Swedish main counties became Danish.

Year 1400

Kalmar Union unites the three Nordic kingdoms. Helsingland and Jämtland is made to their own country.

Moscow is growing stronger and conquers the surrounding Russian principalities. Lithuania is the only Baltic country remains independent and conquers large areas. Other Baltic countries become a part of the Teutonic Order State.

Year 1500

Moscow conquer Novgorod. Poland gain access to the Baltic Sea. The German principals is autonomous to the Holy Roman Empire.

Year 1600

Poland and Lithuania are united under Polish leadership. The Teutonic Order State is conquared by Poland. East Prussia is a Polish county. Time of troubles in Russia. Poland is almost conquering Russia.

In the North borders stable for a long time..

Year 1700

Without resources from the north and Sweden's participation in the 30 years war the German Emperor wins the 30 year war. German principalities is weakened. Without Sweden's involvement in the devistating war in Poland means no independent Prussia and Poland remains strong. Denmark is on the losing side in the war and tvingas cede Holstein and Rügen. An island that has been Danish in 500 years.

Year 1815

The first real peace between the major European countries was concluded after the Seven Years War 1756 - 1763. Germany and Russia were on the winning side and conquered territories from a weakened Poland. Denmark and Russia settled the border in the north, decided in favour for the Russian demands. Denmark also been forced to give duty-free to other nations in the Öresund.channel.

The Congress of Vienna in 1815, making Norway a free nation after a few years of struggle for independence.

Year 1920

Nationalism gets a big break in Europe..The revolution in Russia meant large territorial losses for the Soviet Union. The most nearby areas such as Carelia was recaptured and given status as a Soviet Republic. Denmark agrees to give Sweden and Helsingland independence.

Year 1940

Finland was conquered by the Soviet Union after the agreement with Nazi Germany. (Without the Swedish connection the finnish people went same way as other finnish-speaking people in Russia). Northern Norway was also occupied by the Soviet Union, while southern Norway, Sweden and Helsingland became under German occupation.

Year 1950

Soviet Union regained the territory status as it had in 1940 including the Baltic states, Northern Norway, Carelia and Finland. A Sami Soviet republic was created except for the important Murmansk base which remains in the Russian FSSR. Finland became a part of the Finnnish- Carelian Soviet Republic. Helsingland and Gotland was united with Sweden to become a stronger state against it’s the Soviet neighbor..

Year 1990

Soviet Union was demolished and the republics become independent states, the Baltic States, Finland, Karelia and Sapmi.

Even though it was 800 years ago Västergotland was part of Sweden there is a strong movement to get the province to connect to Sweden. It was, after all, one of Sweden's core countries.
